Roberto Bordogna.

Dear Person-ontology Subscribers,

I've been (a poor) contributor to Jim Shoening's SUO (and an even
a poorer contributor to another US driven Working Group on Common
Ontology).

I'm very glad of this new emphasis about a Person ontology, that
promises to empower legacy applications, also thanks to the interest of
strong Industrial partnership, and I'm interested in Common Ontology for
the simple reason that it is the base for effective Communication and
Knowledge sharing (limited to what can be described).

The Idea of the "Person", I think, its a good starting point for a
lattice of common "knowledge objects" (its the foundation of our modern
thinking, that goes beyond Aristotle and Plato).

I know that professors tend to read more, write more and (eventually) to
produce just books (I'm working on one - that is my main goal at the
moment).

That is the reason for which I tend to be silent.

In fact I think that a provisional common ontology it's better then
nothing (that is the the reason for which in the SUO WG I've "seconded"
the Sumo proposal). And an effective shared ontology, (accordingly to
the "pragmatic rule" and experiences), appear to be possible if created
by people working in the Field supported by Logicians (and eventually by
Personnel professionals and other HRO organizations, I think).

I'm an independent researcher based in Milan
(Italy) interested in technology-based mediated understanding and
communication. With some academic background, I'm currently "contract"
professor (associate professor) at the Collegio Nuovo - Pavia University
(Pavia) of "Digital multimedia communication"(or CDMA). The Collegio
Nuovo, it's a private Educational Institution (http://colnuovo.unipv.it
founded by an Italian Lady Entrepreneur).

Trained as an Electronic Engineer,I have been working with Economists,
Anthropologists and Artists in various projects. I'm currently studying
Eastern Cultures and Eastern thinking inspired Logic (such as for
example Fuzzy Logic). Formerly I've been with DEC for more than a
decade, in various professional and managerial positions.

My "Pragmatic multimedia Lab" course at the Collegio (8th edition), has
been attended by (more than 200) students every year, mainly coming from
5 Pavia University-Faculties (ranging from Engineering to Human
Sciences) and sometimes from abroad (mainly Europeans - via the
"Erasmus" educational exchange program - but also Africans and few South
Americans).

--

I look forward to work with this distinguished group of experts,
for what I can.

Roberto.

> Hello, My name is Ajit Kapoor and I am most recently retired from Lockheed Martin as Director and Chief architect for the Corporate CIO/CTO Office. I am the Principal at The Kapoor Group which is a advisory organization aimed at developing IT that is responsive to business needs. My brief biography is attached for those interested. I am very interested in the semantic aspects of the information access as it relates to our fulfilling the promise of SOA in the broadest sense-Autonomous systems will be needed to be built on the principles of agile infrastructure which have access to the real time information. I look forward to participating in this forum and learn from the group knowledge base.
